Pablo Neruda

This publication was a personal challenge to translate poetry into a visual space. I chose to do so with a collection of poems by the Chilean writer Pablo Neruda. This choice was due to my lifelong familiarity with his pieces, allowing me to have built a strong sense of understanding and nostalgia around the work.

This publication was a personal challenge to translate poetry visually. I chose to do so with a collection of poems by the Chilean writer Pablo Neruda. This choice was due to my lifelong familiarity with his pieces, allowing me to have built a strong sense of understanding and nostalgia around the work.

The concept behind this publication is to treat each spread as an individual piece, while keeping certain visual elements consistent. I wanted to to use the experience of holding and unfolding the book itself to be part of the narrative of the poetry, building upon the interaction between the reader and the object.

Throughout the publication I used a mixture of hand made organic elements and photography / vector objects as a means to create visual tension - mimicking the relationship between the reader and the object. Some of the methods used for the hand made elements include crayons, ink and paint.
